The tradition is old, the style is new

The first event to present craft traditions in a new form was organised in 2016 by the Hungarikum Committee, leading with Zsolt V. Németh, with the aim of demonstrating how traditional motifs, materials and forms can be combined with the dressing style of the present day. The collections of selected craftsmen, artisans and designers have been taking the stage at the folkTREND! fashion show, which the Association of the Hungarian Folk Artists has become a partner of since 2019. At the request of Gabriella Igyártó, the Managing Director of the Association, the stage performance was directed and choreographed by Enikő Kocsis, Gyula Harangozó Gyula Prize winner, and Dezső Fitos, Young Master of Folk Art, Harangozó Gyula Prize winner artistic directors of the Fitos Dezső Ensemble. The result was a performance that, with singing, music and dance, and with the help of the excellent dance artists of the Fitos Dezső Ensemble, the actor Barnabás Rohonyi, the Szentendre Dance Ensemble and the Talent Development Groups of the Fitos Dezső Ensemble, turned the fashion show into a theatrical performance of the whole art form.

The aim of the event is to present motifs from the past in a way that people today can relate to.

In 2023 for the second time Fitos Dezső Ensemble has made the folkTREND! unique, with music that harmonises with the performance.

In the past years the explosive success of the performances and the growing number of spectators confirms that folkTREND! is a spectacular theatrical event that is exciting, meaningful and attractive to international audiences, as well as an opportunity to experience Hungarian cultural values.
