Transylvania Express

The Fitos Dezső Dance Company is careful to regularly stage dance theatre performances that consider the authentic transmission of folklore and the cultures of various historical Hungarian regions as their primary goal. Transylvania Express is a selection of Transylvanian dances and music. With this performance, we want to convey the message that traditional culture lives on in all of us who believe in the value of keeping tradition alive—because tradition defines our future!

No other place in the world has all the beauty a traveller could wish for. Take a real trip back in time on the Transylvania Express. Wonderful villages and towns, fairy-tale mountain giants, unspoilt gorges and mountain pastures, clear streams, and cultural treasures—not to mention the possibility of discovering an integral part of our folk culture: dance, music, and song! The former Royal Lands offer dazzling landscapes, and the many colourful costumes worn by their people indicate where they come from, what kind of social role they play, and where they live. The folk culture preserved over the centuries is apparent in the remote Hungarian villages of the Mezőség, Kalotaszeg, Bihar, Székelyföld, Csík, Gyimes, and Moldva regions.

With the rhythmic clacking of the train, the scenery changes, the moods shift, the unknown is revealed, and we become part of the creative power of community, the advanced, individualised economy of men’s dances and the wholeness inherent in the twirling of the girls.

If traditional cultures are lost, the better half of the human soul is also lost, forever. With this performance, we want to convey the message that traditional culture is maintained and lives on in all of us who believe in the value of keeping tradition alive—because tradition defines our future!
