Dance Performance in Memory of Those Who Left the Motherland

Wobblers

America is the land of the future, America is the land of promise, America is the land of opportunity – a fairy tale, especially in comparison to the penniless existence in the early 20th century Hungary. In the hope of an easier future, hundreds of thousands of poor Hungarian peasants, farm hands, day labourers and servants left their homeland in pursuit of relief from their troubles haunting them in the motherland. The Fitos Dezső Dance Company pay tribute to them, presenting the exodus of Hungarian peasants through the fate of four emigrant young men.

The Dancing Man

The Fitos Dezső Dance Company’s performance, The Dancing Man, is a selection of dance material from collections that are not widely known – therefore the rehearsal period was preceded by a substantial research and collection. In The Dancing Man, we present the knowledge, experience and values of our ancestors from long ago, filtered through our own prism – so that we can then carry them forward, learn from them and not let them be lost.

The Village

Our roots go deep. The closed, traditional village community has allied with nature, to which it is bound by unbreakable ties. In this community, there was a time for singing, dancing, birth and death… Giant children looked out over the world from the shoulders of their fathers and grandfathers.

Taven Baxtale - Be Lucky!

„It is shaped by my two hands, danced by my feet, it is the music of my heart”
Hungarian gypsy crafts, virtuoso dances, feelings of life…

The performance aims to present the crafts related to the Gypsy people in the most complex and diverse way possible. Just as the crafts themselves are very diverse, the performance strives for formal and artistic diversity as well.

Dance Performance Based on the Ballads of János Arany

Mercy!

Dani Pörge, Tera Sinkó, Eszti Dalos, Ferkó Tuba, Aunt Rebi, and Mrs Ágnes are on the same path, the path of sin, on the same route to death. Driven by lust, they make a pact with the devil and pay with the agony of pain. Guilt torments the soul, consumes the body and corrupts the mind.

The Secret of the Chest

What are you supposed to do when a chest suddenly rolls up to you? You don’t know where it came from, you don’t know who it belongs to… There’s no one ANYWHERE, just the chest. A shabby old thing, battered and worn, with brass buckles and a large padlock, rolling and rolling on wheels… What could this chest be hiding?

Béla Bartók: Fifteen Hungarian Peasant Songs

Just as the orchestra builds a bridge between folk and contemporary art, the dance embodies the moods and feelings of life based on the original folk songs. The production brings our folk songs to life in their emotional fullness through music and dance – so that the audience becomes a participant in the creation thanks to the immediacy of the experience.

Tale from the Round Street

There was a tiny village, full of chirping birds, somewhere on the banks of the Danube, once upon a time… All the inhabitants of the Round Street, from the chattering girls to the lads testing their strength and agility, from the old shepherd to the healer woman, they are all peculiar in an ordinary way. But they are endearing characters: important parts of the community.

Co-production of the Fitos Dezső Company and the Dalinda Trio

Passageways

Ever since its foundation, the Fitos Dezső Company’s credo has been to go back to the purest source and interpret one of the most colourful and richest repositories of Hungarian folk tradition, authentic folk dance, in a contemporary way. The singers of the Dalinda acapella trio – Fanni Nádasdy, Julianna Paár and Sára Tímár – are all deeply dedicated to Hungarian folk music. Yet in their musicality, they strive to bring the authentic, instinctive singing style emanating from folk songs to the stage, in a modern, polyphonic form, sensitively reworked and reinterpreted. Their songs are about all of us, because our folk songs are the collective carriers of our ever-circulating thoughts and feelings, the purest source of our self-expression.
